A roadside shrines of Ziemia Biłgorajska.
Small, wooden, metal or brick chapels using old methods can be found in every village in the Biłgoraj Region. They are very often some kind of signposts and landmarks, and above all, they are places where you can contemplate and meditate in a some way.
In the old days, they were supposed to protect travelers and show the way home. In spring, everyone met in the evenings to sing picnics, which constitute a prayer in honor of Saint Mary. Until now, this tradition is alive in the region where these photos come from, it is worthwhile to capture or at least observe this event.
Most of the wooden chapels inside contain works of art, about which many do not even know. In one of them in Nadrzecze there are paintings by Jerzy Duda-Gracz.
